Abstract

The Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security, University of Maribor is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2023. In addition to teaching, research activity is key to the development of the faculty, and in this article, the author presents the development of research activities in the Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security, University of Maribor and its predecessors (Faculty of Police-Security Studies, Higher School of Internal Affairs, the Department of Higher School of Administration, University of Ljubljana). These are presented in three periods - the first period up to 1992, the second after 1992, when the research unit was founded, and the third after 2004, when the faculty established the Institute of Criminal Justice and Security. Key research projects and achievements of researchers are presented. The concluding section of the article presents the projects currently in progress in the departments of the Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security (law, criminology, criminal investigation, information security, general social sciences, humanities and methodology, and policing and security). These represent the prevailing orientation of the faculty in research areas at the present time and directions for the future.
