Criminal intelligence is a relatively new policing concept that has evolved from classic intelligence, which is where most of its terminology derives. The paper identifies and discusses the inconsistent and incorrect usage of terms in classic and criminal intelligence. It points to the pressing need to develop terminology in the field of criminal intelligence to serve as the basis for its further development within the framework of Slovenian criminal investigation/criminalistics and general policing under the new intelligence-led policing model. Using a qualitative descriptive analysis, the paper analyses foreign and domestic professional and scientific literature, identifies expressions that represent terms, and establishes their place in the nomenclature of criminal intelligence. Their use was examined in existing relevant corpora, which was instrumental in their final determination, arrangement and standardisation. The paper represents a step towards the development of a criminal intelligence terminology database.
