Overview of Research on Domestic Child Abuse in Slovenia from the 19th Century to the Present

This Article presents an overview of the main characteristics of research on domestic child abuse in Slovenia from the 19th century to the present. It also deals with the attitude of the professional public towards the discussed issue. It has been established that in the period from the 191 century to the Second World War, the problem of domestic child abuse was mostly discussed by lawyers, teachers, educators and sociologists. The first major studies that indirectly determined domestic violence and negligence towards children in the family in Slovenia were performed during the period between the two world wars. For the period after the Second World War, the decrease in professional interest on this issue is typical. In the mid-eighties and especially in the nineties, the interest of the professional public for the presence and dealing with domestic child abuse reappear. It has been established that in Slovenia the research interest in this issue increased only in the first decade of the 21" century when the prevention of domestic violence and child abuse became broader and more precisely legally defined.
