Abstract

This article presents the results of a pilot victimization study conducted in 2020 and 2022 on a sample of 534 persons living on Slovenian farms. The results showed that the respondents were most concerned about property crime, and they perceive pollution and endangerment of crops, illegal hunting and fishing, sexual violence, as well as inappropriate behaviour related to alcohol consumption as problematic forms of illegal behaviours in their environment. In general, their opinion about the police is positive, but it could be improved with more police presence among the populace. Preventive measures of people on farms are primarily of situational crime prevention, such as video surveillance, perimeter fences, warning signs, warning signals, livestock counting, and property marking. In conclusion, the authors discuss the possibilities for more effective assistance to victims and the implementation of preventive measures to prevent victimization in rural areas.
